Transport

Airways: Amsterdam Airport Schiphol is the largest airport in the Netherlands and is the base of four airlines KLM, Transavia, Martinair, and Arkefly.
Railways: Amsterdam Centraal Railway station is 20 minutes away from Schiphol Airport and is connected by international and domestic intercity trains such as Thalys, Eurostar and Intercity Brussel.
Metro, Tram: There are sixteen tram routes and five metro routes and all are operated by municipal public transport operator Gemeentelijk vervoersbedrijf (GVB).
Bus: Regional and suburban buses are operated by Connexxion and EBS. International coach services are provided by Eurolines from Amsterdam Amstel Railway station, OUIBUS from Amsterdam Sloterdijk railway station and Megabus from the Zuiderzeeweg in the east of the city.
Bicycle: It is a bicycle-friendly city and provides facilities such as bike path and guarded storage garages.

About City

Amsterdam is the capital city and most densely populated municipality of the Netherlands. The city is located in the province of North Holland in the west side of the country. In the late 12th century, it was originated as a small fishing village and soon became one of the most important ports in the world during the Dutch Golden Age. It is also known as the cultural capital of the Netherlands.

Dutch institutions including Philips, AkzoNobel, TomTom, and ING have their headquarters in Amsterdam.  World’s largest companies such as Uber, Netflix, and Tesla are based here or have established headquarters in the city.

Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) has ranked Amsterdam as the second best city to live in and is on the 12th position globally for its quality of the living environment. The Port of Amsterdam remains seconds in the country and the fifth largest seaport in Europe till this day. Amsterdam is the home of the famous diarist Anne Frank, artists Vincent Van Gogh and Rembrandt Van Rijn, and philosopher Baruch Spinoza. The oldest stock exchange in the world Amsterdam Stock Exchange is located in the city center.

Amsterdam’s main attractions are its historic canals, the Rijksmuseum, Anne Frank House, the Van Gogh Museum, Stedelijk Museum, Hermitage Amsterdam, the Heineken Experience, the Royal Palace of Amsterdam, Natura Artis Magistra, Hortus Botanicus Amsterdam, NEMO and many more.

Amsterdam’s has an oceanic climate because of its close proximity to the North Sea to the West, with strong prevailing winds. Weather remains considerably mild throughout winters and summer. Its average annual precipitation is 833 millimeters.
