Abstract :

Tongue cancer is a type of oral cancer that is common in males above the age of 55 years and an incidence in younger age groups is rare. The risk factors include bad oral or dental hygiene, excessive alcohol consumption, tobacco chewing, infection with Human Papilloma Virus and a history of gastro esophageal reflux disease. A family history of cancer is a major predisposing factor for oral cancer. In tongue cancer associated conditions such as leukoplakia, erythroplakia, lichen planus, mouth ulcers have also been known to play a key role. Oral cancer either affects the anterior portion of the tongue where it is known as oral tongue cancer or it may affect the base of the tongue called hypopharyngeal tongue cancer. The treatment is usually done by removing either a part or all of the tongue depending upon the size of tumor followed by chemotherapy or radiotherapy. In oral cancer, the most common type of cancer is squamous cell carcinoma. This is a case of malignant spindle cell tumor of tongue in 32 years old male with a chronic history of tobacco chewing and alcohol consumption. This case is a perfect example to illustrate the ill effects of alcohol and tobacco addiction. The patient was given oral medication that worked on the principles of immunotherapy wherein our aim was not just to give relief to the patients in his symptoms but also to free the patient entirely from the body. This case report aims to illustrate the case of the patient along with the details of treatment given vis-a-vis the improvement noticed over a period of time and how the treatment was done without any side effects.
