Biography:

Xin Chen, MD, PhD is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pediatrics at UT Southwestern Medical Center, Dallas, Texas, USA. Dr. Chen earned his Ph.D. in Pathophysiology from Kobe University in Japan after receiving a medical degree and a master’s degree in China. He performed a postdoctoral fellowship at Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, Ohio, USA. As a recipient of multiple investigator awards for research, Dr. Chen is now focusing his scientific efforts on developing adeno-associated virus (AAV) based gene therapy treatments for neurological diseases with the goal of translating preclinical results into clinical trials. Dr. Chen has successfully generated favorable efficacy and safety data using AAV9 gene therapy to treat AGU, CLN7, and SPG50 knockout mouse models and has expanded into human clinical trials to test a gene therapy approach for both CLN7 Batten disease and SPG50 disorder. Dr. Chen has published over 20 peer-reviewed papers in journals such as Journal of Clinical Investigation, Cells, Molecular Therapy, Science Report, Stem Cells, Journal of Biological Chemistry, and among others.
