Biography:

Juan M. Fernandez Costa is currently working as Postdoctoral researcher at University of Valencia, Spain. He holds a Ph.D. degree from University of Valencia, Spain, in Molecular Biology and Genetics, M.S. University of Valencia, Spain, Cellular and Molecular Biology and Genetics and B.Sc. University of Valencia, Spain, Biology. He has a broad background in Drosophila genetics, with specific training and expertise in Drosophila biomedical models for neuromuscular diseases. His expertise in the development of biomedical models includes design and generation of animal models, identification of new therapeutic targets, pathogenic pathways and high-throughput drug screenings.

During his Ph.D., he studied miRNAs alterations triggered by RNA toxicity in Myotonic Dystrophy. After that, I worked for three years in the biotechnological Company Valentia Biopharma, developing biomedical models of neuromuscular diseases and high-throughput drug screenings. As well as working in drug validation in human cell cultures and mice. At present, he is focusing on the development of a new biomedical model of Limb Girld Muscular Dystrophy 1F (LGMD1F) in Drosophila which will shed light to the molecular pathogenic pathway and may be used for genetic and drug screenings.
