Examples of bioengineering research include tissue engineered organs, improved medical imaging equipment, microbes designed to manufacture chemicals, and portable illness diagnostic gadgets. In order to understand biological mechanisms, treat disease, or address environmental issues, bioengineering aims to bring together scientists and engineers who are interested in the design of materials, tools, methods, technologies, or devices that mimic, modify, or control biology.
